Contribution to the Establishment of the Royal Canadian Navy’s Naval Security
In 2015, Alain Auclair helped establish the Royal Canadian Navy’s Naval Security Team, designed to bolster coastal protection and the security of vessels. Since its first deployment in 2017, this unit has become a major operational asset in Canada and abroad. Summary: Alain Auclair played a key role in launching the Royal Canadian Navy’s Naval Security Team in 2015. Operational since 2017, the unit now stands as a significant asset for coastal defense and vessel security both domestically and internationally.
In 2015, I played a key role in establishing a strategic project for the Royal Canadian Navy: the Naval Security Team (NST).
This specialized unit was designed to enhance the protection of vessels and facilities in coastal areas, a growing requirement in littoral environments. Following establishment directives, I contributed to developing the initial concept of operations and to preparing the framework necessary to bring this new capability to fruition, for the Commander of the Naval Reserve. This work enabled the creation of a flexible structure that combines the expertise of Regular Force and Naval Reserve personnel, capable of operating autonomously or integrated into allied operations.
In 2017, the NST was deployed for the first time, in support of HMCS Winnipeg during a port visit to Busan, South Korea. On site, it ensured the ship’s maritime security using Defender-class patrol boats, while coordinating joint land-based surveillance with the South Korean navy.
Since then, the NST has become an indispensable operational asset, participating in international missions, contributing to the security of naval bases and to specialized training. He is proud to have helped lay the foundations for this essential capability from its earliest stages.
